Two Victims Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in the recent tragic incident on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant carried on following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a raid at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

The gunman opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.
