Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "they can't be true Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when Vicario gave away the ball well outside his box.

He came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering episodes truly irritated the manager.

"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Alright booing after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italy national team the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That goal was a mistake of mine, I take accountability for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to remain more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it is hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next most distant top division score of the season – following Adams' 43.3 metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly also occurred on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

10 moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his box and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the correct connection and get it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, as soon as it left my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

This was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders Liverpool to come prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have come after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.

"During in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
