Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the series' apocalyptic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in April of 2026.

"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the table, offering fans a new way to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this setting, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the players enter the story.

Development on the RPG has been underway for approximately three years, and it is reportedly finished. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider market, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing will start immediately following the campaign, with shipping projected for later in 2026.

An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System

A preview at the system reveals it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical approach. Agents use skills or traits to roll small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the group.
  • This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
  • Achieving a natural 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Emphasize Positioning and Awareness

Battles prioritize placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This mechanic is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics over raw numbers.

A Novel Wound System

The way health is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At critical condition, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They can still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
  3. Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A publicly available Quickstart Guide is promised in the near future. It contains a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings are expected to be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
