Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
