A coalition of seventy-four religious, legal, and support entities across the nation has raised alarms regarding the withholding of $88m in government funds earmarked for individuals escaping forced labor.

As stated in a joint letter, the Justice Department has halted funding for over a hundred assistance organizations that aid survivors escape their traffickers and obtain necessary resources such as housing, counseling, and case management.

"Letting these funds to disappear would allow exploitation to flourish and put survivors’ lives at risk," the communication emphasizes. "Numerous areas will lose their sole assistance organization, abandoning individuals with insecure living conditions."

The coalition is asking lawmakers to compel the administration to reinstate the allocated money to support countless victims throughout the US.

This plea comes after investigations that the federal government has scaled down programs to address human trafficking, even as representatives dispute any retreat on victim support actions.
