Bitcoin Valued at Over $14bn Confiscated in Major International Operation on Alleged Scammers
Law enforcement from America and Britain have jointly confiscated cryptocurrency valued at more than $14bn in what is being called among the largest financial seizures in recent times.
Charges Against Business Empire Leader
The founder of a Cambodian corporate group, Chen Zhi, has been charged with allegedly masterminding a large-scale cryptocurrency scam that victimized countless investors globally.
Prosecutors claim that Mr Chen engaged in financial deception and operated a elaborate illegal fund movement operation.
Global Restrictions and Asset Freezes
As part of the joint operation, the US and UK authorities have applied restrictions on the accused's businesses and frozen assets linked to his organization.
British authorities allegedly confiscated multiple properties in London, including a nearly £100m office building.
Scale of the Operation
Approximately 127,271 bitcoin are currently in the possession of US authorities, making this the biggest bitcoin seizure ever recorded.
Legal officials describe the suspected scheme as a "extensive online scam network" that operated through multiple compounds across Cambodia.
Sophisticated Scam Operations
Based on legal papers, unsuspecting targets were contacted online and persuaded to transfer cryptocurrency based on deceptive claims of financial gains.
The group allegedly set up "call centers" with thousands of mobile devices that controlled approximately 76,000 online profiles for carrying out scams.
"This criminal enterprise was founded upon human suffering," stated a high-ranking government representative.
Human Rights Violations
Authorities allege that the group trafficked employees who were confined in restrictive facilities and compelled to carry out digital fraud.
These individuals were allegedly targeting thousands of people worldwide while operating under threat of physical harm.
Lavish Spending
The proceeds from the alleged criminal activities were reportedly used for expensive trips, recreation, and extravagant acquisitions including private jets, expensive watches, and valuable paintings.
If convicted, Mr Chen could receive a highest sentence of 40 years in prison.
Global Reaction
UK officials declared that the restrictions ensure Mr Chen is now locked out of the British banking network.
Several companies associated with the alleged fraudulent activities have also been restricted by government agencies.
"Authorities are implementing decisive action to combat the growing international danger," announced a official representative.
The operation was characterized as functioning at an "industrial scale" with scammers using multiple methods including deceptive personal connections to lure targets.
Authorities stressed their dedication to protecting susceptible individuals and stopping monetary deception on a global level.
